As part of the planning application we assessed the historic environment in the proposal site’s vicinity, and the impact of the T1 wind turbine upon it. This includes looking at designations such as Scheduled Ancient Monuments, Registered Parks and Gardens, and Listed Buildings. The heritage assets identified were:
- Norton Windmill (Grade II listing)
- Summer House Farm (Grade II listing)
- Campsall Conservation Area
- Campsmount Walled Garden (designated in the Doncaster Unitary Development Plan (1998) as a Park or Garden of Local Historic Interest)
The updated Heritage Technical Note (2016) by AB Heritage concluded that by reducing the scope of the proposed development the impact on Norton Windmill has been considerably reduced. In addition, slight impacts on Campsall Conservation Area and Campsmount Walled Garden have been completely avoided. The report also concluded that whilst the proposed development would result in changes to the settings of Norton Windmill and Summer House Farm, these impacts would result in a minor adverse effect bordering on negligible.
